Jeff and Brenda Holland
We have had a wonderful time in Tyler, Texas, with our sponsoring congregation, West Erwin Church of Christ. It has been a nice time to refresh old friendships and start new ones. Jeff preached Sunday morning and evening, taught Wednesday night and Sunday morning. Brenda taught the ladies Bible class on Wednesday. We all had a number of meals with friends from church. We were also blessed to have Jeffs parents in Tyler to watch the kids while we were busy at church or out late with people.
This week we are traveling to Searcy, Arkansas. Brendas due date is May 21st. Brenda is looking forward to delivering in Searcy. We should be there for a few weeks. If you want to see us or talk by phone, please call us at 903-271-0133 (cell) or email us and well get it arranged.
Jeff has been seeing a number of doctors this week. He is starting a 9 month tuberculosis drug regimen after testing positive on a skin test. He is symptomatic and has a negative TB reading on his chest x-ray, so the treatment is precautionary to make sure he doesnt later develop TB. His hoarse throat was finally diagnosed as LPRD, which is acid reflux that is irritating his vocal cords. Doctors have advised him on diet, anti-acid drugs, and proactive steps to get his voice back. We praise God for good doctors, good medications, and a good prognosis.
Please join us in continued prayers for peace in Togo. Pray that our teammates can return to Togo next week and that our family can return to Togo in June.

Once again we want to thank you all for your prayers. We have had a good week in Ghana. After seeing the Newlins and Bontragers off, we made our way West to the Village of Hope, where we were welcomed with open arms. Needless to say it was the best of refugee camps. The most difficult part of the week was fighting off boredom. We played lots of games and read. The kids sure enjoyed the time playing in the wide open spaces and with the children in the orphanage.
We are now at Coconut Grove Resort for our annual West African Missionary Retreat. At the end of the week, we feel confident we will be able to return to Togo, as we have heard no more reports of violence following the president's inaugaration.
We are sorry to those of you who feel as though you have lost personal contact with us. Our laptop was infected with a worm that has eliminated our internet access.

We are thankful for the ways that God had blessed us during this past week in Ghana. We began the week by receiving a generous outpouring of prayers, emails, phone calls, and financial help for our extra expenses from our sponsoring church, Homewood. We are so blessed by all who support and pray for our ministry.
We remained in Accra for the first part of the week to see off the Bontragers and the Newlins. They all made it back safely to the States. We can't say often enough how much we appreciate those who make the sacrifice to come and teach our kids. They are a vital part of this ministry.
On Tuesday we and the Koonces drove out to the Village of Hope where we were warmly welcomed and accomodated for the remainder of the week. We had a four bedroom guest house that was perfect for our two families. I'm thankful to say that we are all even better friends after living in very close quarters for about a week and a half now. Jonathan did give us a fright by running fever for a couple of days, but we praise God that he is doing much better now.
Today, Monday, we drove to Elmina, Ghana for the the annual West Africa Missionary Retreat. It's been great to see so many of our friends and are looking forward to a good week together.
As others have requested, please continue to pray for Togo, and for the over 20,000 Togolese who are now refugees in Benin and Ghana. We plan to return to our home at the end of this week. |
